History Makers International Awards Open For Nominations

history makers [1]The call for entries [2] for the 2012 History Makers Awards [3] has been officially opened.  Presented during History Makers International [4] on January 25th-27th at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York, the History Makers Awards recognize the very best in History, Current Affairs and Non-Fiction programming, across TV and digital platforms.

In order to be eligible for nomination, an entry had to have been released for the first time anywhere in the world, between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011. Entries in the competition must be in the English language or have English subtitles or have dialogue dubbed in English. There is a $115.00 USD fee per entry, and nominations close on November 4th 2011. The Categories are listed below, but please see the competition website for the complete list of rules and regulations [5].The categories available for entry in the 2012 competition include:

Best History Production – Recognizing a history production that has made a profound public impact, exemplifies high production values, and advances the history genre.

Best Use of Archive in a History Production – Recognizing a history production that exhibits the highest level of craft in seamlessly treating and integrating archives to achieve the most powerful impact.

Best Historical Drama Production – Recognizing a historical drama production based on real historical figures or events which effectively and engagingly treats its historical context to tell a compelling story.

Best Current Affairs Production – Recognizing a production that presents a contemporary issue in the most dramatic and impactful manner, taking into consideration the importance of the issue(s) and the effect of the programs exposure.

Most Innovative Production – Recognizing creativity and originality in History and Current Affairs production that incorporates the use of new editing and directing styles as well as the use of technical enhancements.

Best Interactive Production – Recognizing a History or Current Affairs production originally introduced onto a digital platform – including cross-platform projects, original online programming, mobile applications, and gaming – which demonstrate originality and excellence in the use of the online medium for factual storytelling.

Best Social Change Production *NEW* – Recognizing a program that spotlights or promotes social change in their subjects and/or audiences, either individually or in groups and communities. Entries may be either specials or series, and will cover the efforts of their subjects to take steps to bring about positive change.

All nominated entries receive one complimentary registration to History Makers International, January 25-17, 2012 in New York City, to facilitate attendance at the History Makers Awards and provide nominees the opportunity to network with the world’s best content producers, commissioning editors, and broadcasters in history, archives, investigative and social issue programming.
