Minister Clement Delivers Keynote Address at GTEC

Government of Canada [1]Earlier today the Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor [1], delivered the opening keynote address to this year’s Government Technology Exhibition and Conference [2] (GTEC) to discuss the modernization and streamlining of government services.

“Government, above all, needs to be responsive to the needs of its citizens,” said Minister Clement. “This means we have a responsibility to use every tool we have at our disposal, especially modern information technology, to make government more efficient, more open, and more responsive to the needs of Canadians.”

This conference is a key annual event for government professionals in the Information Technology sector, and plays an important role in the exchange of ideas and best practices that lead to high government performance.

Minister Clement spoke about the creation of Shared Services Canada, which is expected to improve services to Canadians, make IT more secure and reliable, and save taxpayer dollars.

“Shared Services Canada will play a large role in transforming IT and will yield greater value for tax dollars across the federal government. This is a major milestone in managing government IT services,” added Minister Clement.

GTEC Ottawa is currently underway, running until October 20th at the Ottawa Convention Center.
