Library Of The Future Provides New Model For Learning
The Taylor Family Digital Library (TFDL), a model intellectual and cultural centre for the 21st Century, is now open to the public. Located at the heart of the University of Calgary and designed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd., this new six-storey 24,000 m² facility is a unique convergence of libraries, historical archives, arts museum, scholarly publishing and student academic support services.
Designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold standards, this $205 million library project provides a wide range of materials to enhance advanced and connected learning. These include:
- over half a million books and periodicals
- online resources
- a large Learning Commons with café
- workrooms
- film and audio rooms
- digital editing and recording suites
- multimedia labs
- quiet study areas
- seminar and consultation space for academic growth
As many as 12,000 people per day are expected to pass through the TFDL, whether in person or through digital browsing.
