Softchoice Employees Travel to Bali Indonesia to Help Bridge Digital Divide

softchoiceSoftchoice has announced that 12 employees are en route to Bali Indonesia for a two-week humanitarian mission in support of the Widhya Asih Foundation (WAF). The Softchoice team will be providing technology infrastructure to help ‘bridge the digital divide’ on behalf of the roughly 500 orphaned Balinese children that WAF supports. The mission was made possible by the fundraising efforts of Softchoice’s employees and the assistance of industry partners.

“I would like to express our sincerest thanks to our people and to Cisco, Faronics, Lenovo, Microsoft, Sophos and VMware for their generous contributions,” said Karly Pierce, Chairperson of the Softchoice Cares Board. “Our shared belief in the power of technology to improve lives will give almost 500 children the opportunity to further their education and break the cycle of poverty.”

The mission is part of Softchoice Cares – an employee-led philanthropic program focused on providing access to technology on behalf of some of the world’s poorest communities. During their two-week mission the Softchoice team will be setting up computer labs for seven different orphanages located across the island of Bali. The team will also be installing networking and server infrastructure to allow WAF to gain greater efficiency and more easily meet government mandated reporting requirements by moving from paper to electronic-based record keeping. Softchoice has previously undertaken employee-led humanitarian missions to Uganda, Ghana, Rwanda and Sri Lanka.
