GamerCampGamercamp returns to Toronto for its fourth edition this November 3rd and 4th at the beautiful Isabel Bader Theatre, with some of the top names working in the games industry.  Festival director Jaime Woo has announced that Ken Yeung, lead programmer of the award-winning Super T.I.M.E. Force, and Pat Redding, lead game designer of the highly-anticipated Splinter Cell: Black List, as well as artists from NYU’s acclaimed No Quarter exhibition are the latest talent additions to the 2012 roster, joining already-announced Deus Ex: Human Revolution lead writer Mary DeMarle, Papo & Yo creative director Vander Caballero, and Dyad creator Shawn McGrath.

“Capy’s Super T.I.M.E. Force and Ubisoft Toronto‘s Splinter Cell: Black List are two of the most anticipated games of 2013 not just in Toronto but globally,” said Woo. “We’re excited that Gamercamp attendees will get to hear about them first-hand.”

In total, attendees will have over 25 presentations to choose from at Gamercamp, in addition to 30 new and in-progress games to play. Toronto will also get a taste of New York, with eight games commissioned by NYU’s No Quarter Exhibition and curated by Charles Pratt. No Quarter will be set up at the Gamercamp Social, with games by artists including Zach Gage, Robin Arnott, Noah Sasso, Ramiro Corbetta, Margaret Robinson, Terry Cavanaugh, Mark Essen (Messhof), and Matt Parker.

“We’re proud to bring one of New York’s most exciting videogame events to Toronto with many of these games marking their Canadian premieres at Gamercamp,” said Woo. “From large social games like BaraBariBall and Drunk Dungeon to intimate, mind-blowing games like Deep Sea and At A Distance, the No Quarters at Gamercamp installation is one-of-a-kind exclusive.”

Gamercamp is one of Canada’s largest games festivals and brings global talent to Toronto. Over 1,000 people attend Gamercamp annually, and this year should prove no exception. Early bird pricing for passes are in effect until September 6th and available at the Gamercamp website.

For those interested in speaking or showing at Gamercamp, workshop and videogame submissions are still open until September 5th. Full information is available at the Gamercamp website.

Super T.I.M.E. Force is a side-scrolling shooter in the vein of Contra and Gunstar Heroes with a twist: in the game, whenever a player dies and restarts a level, they play alongside a ghost version of themselves that had just died. Over time, players will accumulate an army of ghost selves to help overcome levels.

The game, a recipient of the Microsoft XBLA Award and recently announced as a Fantastic Arcade selection, comes from Capy Games, the innovative studio behind the critically-acclaimed Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist is an upcoming action-adventure videogame and the seventh game of the critically-acclaimed and commercially-successful Splinter Cell series, developed by Ubisoft Toronto.

The No Quarter exhibition, commissioned by NYU and curated by Charles Pratt, is in its third year. The No Quarter at Gamercamp installation will be a first for Canada.

Selections for the Gamercamp Social include:

  • BaraBariBall -an Indiecade-nominated Super Smash Brothers-inspired sports game by Noah Sasso
  • Guts of Glory – a post-apocalyptic card game created by Zach Gage (SpellTower)
  • Drunk Dungeon – a large social board game by Margaret Robertson
  • Hokra – an Indiecade-nominated abstract sports game by Ramiro Corbetta
  • At a Distance – a critically-praised art game by Terry Cavanagh (VVVVVV)
