Help DARC Productions Get To Nordic Game Jam

movie orbyOver the past year DARC Productions Inc. partners Ryan Cox and Troy Morrissey have been filming a documentary about the world of game jams. They have traveled to San Francisco, Sweden, Newfoundland, and Toronto to capture game jams of all types and have interviewed Jammers from Japan, China, Turkey, Canada, Brazil, Denmark, Sweden, America, Finland, England, Scotland, Germany, Poland, Italy, India, Scotland, England and many other places!

They have just found out that Nordic Game Jam is no longer on the same weekend as Global Game Jam – this is awesome news and they are super excited! You see, they wanted to attend and film Nordic for the documentary, but because they host the Toronto Chapter of the Global Game Jam they were unable to, so they’re very excited by this news and are launching an IndieGoGo campaign in the hopes of making the trip possible.

“The truth is we cannot do a film about the world of Game Jams without having Nordic Game Jam, the “Biggest Game Jam In The World” represented, so we are once again reaching out and asking the community for help,” said Troy Morrissey, Director of GJD. “We need to raise money to get us to Copenhagen for Nordic Game Jam 2013.”

Julie Heyde, one of the hosts of Nordic Game Jam, has been gracious enough to give us a place to stay while in Copenhagen, so the money we need is mostly for air fare, food, and rentals. Air fare is anywhere from $2100 to $3600 for 2 return flights, so to be safe we are asking for the high end of flight costs. In the event DARC passes their goal to get to Nordic, the production company has areas where the extra funds can be allocated. While they are in Denmark, they are hopeful that they can make their way to Stockholm, Sweden to meet with some friends and get interviews.  They also want to get together with Chris Hecker, Doug Church and Jonathon Blow (all unconfirmed) to interview them about hosting the fist official “Game Jam” and talk in general about how things have grown. So any extra funds raised will go towards these trips; plus post-production of the film is going to have an obvious cost.

Some perks are GJD T-Shirts & Hoodies & Digital DL of the complete film, our sincere thanks and your name in the film credits. All T-shirts and hoodies will be shipped by March 1. 2013. The Digital DL once the film is complete. Plus you get to help us keep this film funded entirely by the game dev community, which after seeking more traditional avenues of funding is the only option – but that’s a story for another time.
