Mobile Innovations Grows A Fertile Field With PlayBook And BlackBerry 10

mobile innovations [1]As a featured BlackBerry Experience Forum exhibitor specializing in mobile law enforcement with PlayBook and BB10, Mobile Innovations [1] founder and President Gary Bauer was pleasantly surprised at the high level of interest from the agriculture and natural resource sector attendees. Accustomed to fielding questions from law enforcement agencies, EMS and fire departments, Mr. Bauer found himself speaking with interested attendees from agriculture, logging, mining and energy at the recently held BlackBerry Experience Forum Toronto. Attendees were particularly interested in the company’s new MPA Mobile Office solution with PlayBook docking system.
Held at Toronto’s Convention Centre, the forum showcased the freshly released BlackBerry 10 platform and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 to enterprise and government with a series of breakout sessions and hands-on demos by select BlackBerry Alliance Partners like Mobile Innovations. Bauer and his CTO Geof Bosworth were on hand at the prestigious event to demo in-vehicle and portable hard case versions of MPA Mobile Office.

Like the event itself, the MPA Mobile Office exhibit attracted the attention of attendees from many different areas of business and industry. Among them were a number of IT professionals from farming and food products companies as well as logging, mining and energy operations. Most attendees were from Toronto and southern Ontario where field workers routinely gather and relay data, record and annotate documents, and create and submit reports.

The Mobile Innovations MPA Mobile Office turns their vehicles into affordable mobile offices. The in-vehicle kit is easily installed by any trained mechanic in any make, model or type of vehicle – from a pickup truck to a tractor to a tree feller – for a fraction of the cost of a ruggedized laptop upfit. It is mounted inside the vehicle with a proprietary PlayBook docking system called MPA SmartDock which features a quick-release dock with full-time rapid charging and micro USB. Including the SmartDock, MPA Mobile Office costs under $2000 depending on configuration and also includes:

“In many sectors, numerous companies leapfrogged costly laptop solutions by never using them, instead going straight to BlackBerry smartphone devices with voice and data plans. Now they’re looking to leapfrog again by using these plans to run affordable PlayBook mobile computing solutions like ours for their field staff, and never using costly ruggedized laptops.” Explains Bauer. “Wherever mobile field staff need to securely collect, track, send, and access data or do reports, our MPA Mobile Office and enterprise apps make good business sense.”

As well as the in-vehicle version of MPA Mobile Office, a portable version is also available. Weighing 20 pounds and containing all of the components in a protective Pelican case, this configuration is popular with clients who need to move their Mobile Office from one vehicle, or field location to another. It is also frequently used to benchmark larger mobile computing deployments.
