Electronic Arts Inc. has announced that a downloadable demo for Army of TWO™ The Devil’s Cartel, the next installment of the franchise celebrated for its dynamic two player co-operative gameplay and over-the-top blockbuster action, will be available on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace and PlayStation®Network starting on March 12th. In the demo, players will step into the boots of private military contractors Alpha and Bravo as they embark on a mission to rescue a kidnapped politician while diffusing an additional hostage situation. From the bottom floor of a dangerous drug lab, to the rooftops of a sky rise, Alpha and Bravo must infiltrate the Cartel’s stronghold and overcome hordes of cartel members, all the while working together to survive. Ubisoft Canada has launched a nation-wide program aimed at giving university students a well-deserved break from their studies, Crush Exam Stress and Just Dance. In the process, Ubisoft Canada will also seek to set a world record on Saturday April 6^th 2013, with students from university campuses across Canada all dancing simultaneously to Flo Rida’s Good Feeling (video). The program is based on the insight that exam periods are one of the most stressful times for students on campus, and as they cram for finals they are likely to be more reclusive and shy away from physical activity. In collaboration with Edelman and Redwood Strategic, Ubisoft Canada will offer students an escape from their textbooks and create an opportunity to connect through fun and high-energy activities. After a successful and diverse turnout at last year’s 2012 GDC Play debut, GDC Play comes back to San Francisco in 2013. With this year’s return comes the introduction of Best in Play, a showcase of GDC Play’s finest games. For this new ‘Best in Play’ award program, all GDC Play exhibitors will be judged on their in-development or complete games by a panel of veteran GDC organizers and Gamasutra editors. Eight participating games will be selected and announced as ‘Best in Play’ winners prior to GDC. Winners will be announced mid-February and they will receive two All-Access passes to GDC 2014. Special ‘Best in Play’ designations will be attached to the honorees’ GDC Play kiosks at GDC 2013, where their games will be playable to all GDC attendees. Read the rest of this entry »

Despite flatlining global technology mergers and acquisitions (M&A) volume year over year in 2012, Canadian volume was up 21% according to Ernst & Young‘s Global technology M&A update. The report highlights that risks such as incorrect valuation were top of mind as equities markets fluctuated and buyers believed many company values remained high.
