New Leadership Heralds CWC Commitment to Women in the Digital Age

cwc [1]Canadian Women in Communications [1] (CWC) is pleased to announce two new appointments to the organization; Joanne Stanley as Executive Director, and Janice McDonald as new board Chair. Ms. Stanley brings more than a decade of experience leading not for profit organizations, most recently as Co-founder and Executive Director of Canadian Women in Technology. Prior to that, Ms. Stanley held senior positions at the Ontario Centres of Excellence and Bell. For the past six months, she has been working with the CWC as Special Advisor, Strategy and Technology Sectors, as the organization expands its focus in the technology and digital arena.

“I am delighted to be joining CWC at such an exciting time in the organization’s history,” said Ms. Stanley. “As the communications and technology sectors continue to converge, my goal is to help CWC continue its significant work of recognizing and advancing women in communications and technology and to increase its coast to coast network of women empowered to lead Canada in the digital economy.”

The CWC also announced a new Chair of the National Board of Directors, Janice McDonald.  Ms. McDonald is an award-winning serial entrepreneur, founding organizations CD Warehouse Inc., MyMusic and iStyle Originals. Ms. McDonald was one of 35 women selected globally for The International Women’s Forum Leadership Fellowship and is an Advisor for Cornell Queens EMBA program as well as the Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work in the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University.  Ms. McDonald has been working with the CWC for over 5 years, first as a mentor, then as Regional Board Chair, and most recently as part of the Executive Committee for the National Board.

“For more than two decades, the CWC has been at the forefront of supporting and promoting women in the communications and technology sectors through mentorship, professional development, networking and advocacy,” said Ms. McDonald.  “I look forward to building on the great foundation that has been developed and ensuring we continue to help women realize their full career potential.”

Ms. McDonald also thanked outgoing CWC board, Patricia Douey, who as board chair since February of 2011. “I join all of the board in thanking Pat for her leadership as Chair for the past two years.  She continues to be one of CWC’s strongest champions and we are grateful for the significant time and effort she has shared with the CWC.”

CWC also like to thanks Judith Campbell, who has served as Acting President for the past six months while the organization searched for an Executive Director. Her passion and commitment to CWC has been invaluable.
