Canadian Football Legend Bernie Custis Profiled In Unique Film Project

movie orbyBernie Custis refused to give up on his dream. When the National Football League denied him the quarterback position because of the colour of his skin, he packed up and moved to Canada. The Hamilton Tiger Cats signed him and, in 1951, he became the first black quarterback in North American professional football, the kick off to a great career and a berth in the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame. Now, Bernie is helping to break another barrier. Ageism is Canada’s most widely tolerated form of social discrimination, according to Revera’s Report on Ageism (Revera and the International Federation on Ageing, 2012). A unique new program between seniors’ care and services provider Revera and Reel Youth, a not-for-profit which empowers youth to create engaging films about important social issues, is bringing together young and old in a film project that promotes inter-generational learning and celebrates ageless spirit. Canadian Video Game AwardsNominations opened today for the 5th Annual Canadian Videogame Awards (CVAs) as the show makes the move to Toronto, a city that is known for its thriving digital economy. The show will celebrate Canada’s spot on the world stage as a leader in interactive entertainment. This industry contributes $2.3 billion to Canada’s GDP and employs over 16,500 men and women in studios right across Canada. Disney XD Gives Kids The Chance To Help Design New Series Fangbone

disneyxdDisney XD is putting the ‘fan’ in Fangbone by giving viewers the power to call the shots for its latest pilot. The network’s new animated adventure follows the epic journey of a nine-year-old barbarian warrior and is getting an early start on DisneyXD.ca, where viewers can influence the pilot’s creative direction by voting for what they want to hear. This means building a deck with whatever you can find-wood, metal, rocks or even giant animal corpses-adding engines and propellers and taking to the skies in your own custom-built vessel. But the skies are far from friendly, and enemies like pirates and krakens threaten to destroy your creations piece-by-piece until nothing but your grappling hook can save you from plummeting to your doom.  Enter Windforge, a 2D side-scrolling, independent sandbox title in the works by Ottawa-based Snowed In Studios. Until now the company has survived on contract work, contributing to AAA titles such as EA’s The Sims 3 and Eidos Interactive’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and now, for the first time, Snowed In seeks to fund its own independent title by turning to Kickstarter.
