Reminder: DigiBC Townhall Thursday September 25 2014

DigiBCvia DigiBC: Introduced in 2010, the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit legislation is set to phase out in 2015 pending a review by the BC government in late 2014.  Our DigiBC survey indicates that from 2009 to 2013, 1,700 new jobs have been created and the industry has expanded to 5,700 direct jobs working in 142 companies in the video games sector. We estimate the government has paid over $100 million in cash based tax credits which have in turn resulted in a tax surplus of $135 million to the BC government. It is essential that the Interactive Digital Media tax Credit is extended at a minimum and better if it is enhanced if we want to become number one in Canada again. We need your support and help!

Your DigiBC Committee on Public Policy is actively working to ensure the program not only continues, but is expanded to meet the current and long-term needs of our evolving industry.

There is no guarantee the BC government will renew the IDMTC. If the IDMTC is not renewed, it would be devastating to our local industry in many respects. Our industry competes with many stronger industry groups for government dollars and the BC government has had to reduce the budget in many areas to avoid budget deficits. We have learned that with a strong united and passionate industry group and a solid process for justifying policy recommendations, we can have a voice and improve our ability to influence government policy. Your involvement is critical.

DigiBC is actively working to redesign the tax incentive to accelerate the growth of our local industry today and well into the future. We are holding this town hall meeting to discuss the results of our industry survey and our plans for the Digital Media Tax Credit and hear from you on your experience with the current tax credit and recommendations for changes.

Join the industry this Thursday to discuss the future of the IDMTC at this free event. Pizza and beer will be provided.
