Skills Canada British Columbia has announced the results of the Skills Canada British Columbia Provincial Competition 2013 including the 49 qualifying first place winners (PDF List) who will be competing at the 19th Skills Canada National Competition. The provincial competition concluded today at the Trades – Trade & Exhibition Centre in Abbotsford. Medals were awarded to champions in six skilled trade and technology categories: transportation, construction, manufacturing, information and technology (includes Animation, Film, TV, IT and Robotics), service and employment. The Knowledge Network is looking for short films about Nelson and the Kootenays, so they’re awarding $30,000 to filmmakers who pitch the best stories. The network is looking for a series of short (2-3 minutes in length) historical documentaries to be created from still photographs – archival, historical and even personal photos – centred around the Kootenays region. Apply online with your name, resume, story concept, and links to your existing work – by April 26, 2013. The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) proudly announces the winners of The Reel Challenge Contest – Take 4. The 4th edition of The Reel Challenge, Celebrating the Movie and Television Industry at Work: Behind the Scenes, showcased the importance of promoting and protecting the dynamic production industry in Canada, which in 2012 supported the livelihoods of over 130,000 artists, creators and workers. Aspiring filmmakers were given the opportunity to share this very important message and showcase their talents by creating a 60 second comedic or animated short.
