Seven Canadian Films To Be Screened At Busan International Film Festival

Telefilm CanadaTelefilm Canada is proud to recognize Canada’s presence at the 19th Busan International Film Festival and the Asian Film Market in South Korea, which will be held October 2 to 11 and October 5 to 8, respectively. Seven Canadian films have been selected by the Festival, one of the most important in Asia, including two world premieres. New Zealand And Canada Announce Digital Media Collaboration

Canada Media FundThe Canada Media Fund has announced that New Zealand and Canada are joining together to establish a million dollar matching fund to encourage the coproduction of innovative digital media projects for online audiences. The Canada-New Zealand Digital Media incentive has $1M CDN ($1.1M NZD) available in the 2014-2015 financial year to be allocated to approximately three eligible projects. New Study Released On How Canadians Select Their Audiovisual Content

oldTVNew technologies are influencing the viewing habits of Canadian consumers with regard to audiovisual content and at the same time enhancing the availability of such content. A study, How Canadians Select Audiovisual Content (PDF), was commissioned by Telefilm Canada, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and the Canada Media Fund (CMF). Based on results of focus groups convened across the country, indicates, notably, that Canadians are now increasingly choosing to watch TV series instead of feature films and confirms that most film-viewing is done through television. The study found, moreover, that consumers are increasingly seeking on-demand access to audiovisual products across a wide variety of platforms. Read the rest of this entry »

Telefilm Canada To Fund Seven English- And French-Language Films

Telefilm CanadaTelefilm Canada has announced its support, through the Canada Feature Film Fund, for the production of seven English- and French-language feature films, five of which are lower budget (budget of less than $2.5 million). The total investment amounts to more than $7 million. The films selected are Chameau Lion Enfant (Stéphane Beaudoin),The Colossal Failure of the Modern Relationship (Sergio Navarretta), The End of Days at Godfrey Global Inventory (Jennifer Liao), Natasha (David Bezmozgis),October Gale (Ruba Nadda), Remember (Atom Egoyan) and Le Scaphandrier (Alain Vézina). DigiBCvia DigiBC: Introduced in 2010, the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit legislation is set to phase out in 2015 pending a review by the BC government in late 2014.  Our DigiBC survey indicates that from 2009 to 2013, 1,700 new jobs have been created and the industry has expanded to 5,700 direct jobs working in 142 companies in the video games sector. We estimate the government has paid over $100 million in cash based tax credits which have in turn resulted in a tax surplus of $135 million to the BC government. It is essential that the Interactive Digital Media tax Credit is extended at a minimum and better if it is enhanced if we want to become number one in Canada again. We need your support and help! 30 Canada Media Fund Supported Productions Receive 66 Gémeaux Awards

Canada Media FundThe Canada Media Fund (CMF) congratulates the winners of the 29th prix Gémeaux who received awards on September 11 and 14. With these awards, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) recognizes the outstanding work of industry professionals in the French language market. The Academy nominated 85 CMF-funded projects that received a combined total of 267 nominations. Of those, 30 productions won a total of 66 Gémeaux Awards, including top winners such as Série Noire, Les Beaux Malaises, Infoman, and the People’s Choice Award winner, Unité 9. Canda Media Fund And São Paulo Cine Announce New Codevelopment Incentive

Canada Media FundThe Canada Media Fund (CMF) and SP Cine (São Paulo, BR) have entered into an agreement to provide financing for the development of coproductions. The announcement was made at Strategic Partners, a preeminent coproduction and cofinancing market held each year in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This agreement is part of the CMF’s Coproduction and Codevelopment Incentive announced earlier this year.
