The Taylor Family Digital Library [1] (TFDL), a model intellectual and cultural centre for the 21st Century, is now open to the public. Located at the heart of the University of Calgary [2] and designed by Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. [3], this new six-storey 24,000 m² facility is a unique convergence of libraries, historical archives, arts museum, scholarly publishing and student academic support services.
Designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold standards, this $205 million library project provides a wide range of materials to enhance [4]advanced and connected learning. These include:
- over half a million books and periodicals
- online resources
- a large Learning Commons with café
- workrooms
- film and audio rooms
- digital editing and recording suites
- multimedia labs
- quiet study areas
- seminar and consultation space for academic growth
As many as 12,000 people per day are expected to pass through the TFDL, whether in person or through digital browsing.
