Vancouver’s Nerd Corps Acquired By DHX Media

dhx mediaDHX Media, a key player internationally in the creation of content for families and children, announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Vancouver-based Nerd Corps Entertainment Inc. and its subsidiaries for approximately $57 million. The transaction is anticipated to close by December 24, 2014. The acquisition increases DHX’s operating leverage, adding Nerd Corps’ animation studio in Vancouver, which features five lines of production, as well as Nerd Corps’ interactive apps, gaming expertise, and licensing opportunities with Nerd Corps’ brands. Emily Carr University Of Art + Design Granted Funding To Study The Art Of Data

Emily Carr UniversityEmily Carr University of Art + Design has received funding to study data aesthetics, which looks at the visual and cultural effects of how society manages and uses data. Emily Carr University’s Studio for Extensive Aesthetics was awarded almost $57,000 from this year’s BC Knowledge Development Fund. The money will go toward purchasing equipment for a dedicated research facility and the project supports the work of the Canada Research Chair in art and design technology. Belgium And Canada Announce Interactive Digital Media Incentive

Canada Media FundThe Canada Media Fund and Wallimage (Wallonia, Belgium) announced today an agreement to establish an incentive to encourage the codevelopment and coproduction of eligible interactive digital media projects between transatlantic producers. The Incentive is only available to co-productions between Canada and Belgium, but does not exclude third-party co-producing partners from other territories, even if such partner is the majority co-producer of a project that receives financing from the Incentive. Telefilm CanadaOn November 20th, 2014, Telefilm Canada opened the doors of its Production Program, for fiscal year 2015/2016, to French-market projects with budgets over $2.5M. Opening dates for applications of projects with budgets under $2.5M will be announced later. The Production Program of the Canada Feature Film Fund is available to Canadian production companies looking to finance their feature film projects in the production and/or post-production stages.
