Expanded Mandate And New Direction For Canadian Women In Communications and Technology

cwc [1]Canadian Women In Communications [1] (CWC) announced today that it has officially become Canadian Women in Communications and Technology (WCT). The new name and brand reflect an enlarged mandate to help bridge gaps so women are better equipped to be successful participants and leaders in Canada’s burgeoning digital economy.

“It’s a new day for members of Canada’s leading organization for professional women,” said Janice McDonald, Chair of the CWC Board of Directors. “As Canadian Women in Communications and Technology, we’ll build even stronger links between the communications and technology sectors. We’ll leverage our partnerships with other professional associations, government departments and major industry sponsors to help women advance in the digital age.”

Transitioning from the national organization founded in 1991 to Canada’s largest national grassroots community network, Canadian Women in Communications and Technology provides networking, mentoring and educational opportunities for its 2,500 members in telecommunications, media and technology (TMT) from coast to coast.

“We’re delighted by the new opportunities for growth and development this presents for everyone involved with Canadian Women in Communications and Technology,” said Joanne Stanley, Executive Director. “Adding technology brings interdependence and convergence between two sectors: content and creativity; and information and communications technology and information exchange.”

The timing of this announcement coincides with a number of new additions to CWC’s Board of Directors [2] at its Annual General Meeting on February 12. The backgrounds and professional affiliations of many of these leaders reflect Canadian Women in Communications and Technology’s expansion and important role in positioning women in Canada for better representation and success in the digital economy.
