Production Begins in Toronto On Movie Central And The Movie Network Original New Comedy Series Sensitive Skin
Rhombus Media, Corus Entertainment‘s Movie Central, and Bell Media‘s The Movie Network have announced that production is underway on Sensitive Skin, a new series based on the acclaimed BBC program of the same name, with shooting to take place in Toronto over six weeks. Kim Cattrall stars in the bittersweet comedy about 50-somethings and executive produces along with co-star Don McKellar, who directs all six episodes from scripts by Bob Martin. Also announced today are additional cast members including Academy Award®-nominee Elliott Gould (M*A*S*H, Friends, Ray Donovan), Nicolas Wright (White House Down), Gemini Award-winner Colm Feore (The Borgias), Joanna Gleason (Last Vegas), Gemini Award-winner Clé Bennett (FlashPoint), Mary Walsh (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), and Marc-André Grondin (C.R.A.Z.Y.).
Sensitive Skin is the story of Davina (Kim Cattrall), a woman of a certain age and her long-time husband Al (Don McKellar), who have sold their comfortable family home and moved downtown to an ultra-modern condo, in a transitional neighbourhood, in a conscious effort to change their lives, keep relevant, and begin again. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happens. The series marks Cattrall’s return to television following the conclusion of her wildly successful HBO series Sex And The City. Tricon Films & Television will handle international distribution of the series.
“Sensitive Skin is a funny, sad, raw, and beautiful portrait of a woman my age who is literally haunted by doubt and the choices she has made in life,” said series lead and Executive Producer Kim Cattrall. “It’s a project I’ve been developing for years and with the help of Don McKellar, Bob Martin, and the Rhombus dream team, it’s finally coming to life.”
Based on the original British version starring Joanna Lumley, this new adaption of Sensitive Skin is written by Bob Martin (Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays, Slings & Arrows) and stars:
- Kim Cattrall as Davina
- Don McKellar as Al
- Elliott Gould as Al’s opportunistic physician
- Nicolas Wright as Davina and Al’s neurotic and depressive son Orlando
- Colm Feore as Davina’s brother-in-law Roger
- Joanna Gleason as Davina’s conservative older sister Veronica
- Mary Walsh as Sarah, a well-known radio personality
- Clé Bennett as Theodore, the friendly neighbourhood drug dealer
- Marc-André Grondin as Greg
