Next Generation Of Game Developers Selected To Create Games And Apps for Google Glass

CFC [1]The next generation of game developers are here – and they’re already hard at work on the next big thing. Today, Mind Pirate [2] and the Canadian Film Centre [3] (CFC) announced the four participants selected to participate in the ideaBOOST/Mind Pirate Production Lab [4]: a three-month boot camp that gives developers the resources to create games and apps for wearable technology devices.  The four winners selected to participate in the ideaBOOST/Mind Pirate Production Lab consist of high caliber developer talent from both the United States and Canada. The winners are:

Combined with their creativity and programming prowess, these participants will also leverage a $10,000 USD award grant to help bring their ideas to life. At the end of the program, any of the four games or apps may be selected and brought to market at a later date.  Participants will also have early access to Callisto, Mind Pirate’s next generation developer technology platform, to build their apps.  Callisto gives developers the tools to create engaging experiences on wearable devices and is not available to third parties until 2014, making ideaBOOST participants amongst the first to get their hands on this next-generation technology.  Award-winning CFC Media Lab production team will also be creating a Google Glass app to round out these four companies.

“The responses from high caliber developers eager to participate in the production lab have been amazing, so our biggest challenge has been narrowing the field,” said Ana Serrano, Chief Digital Officer, Canadian Film Centre. “As we work with our developers to explore new ways to create games and apps for wearable technology such as Google Glass, this project continues to strengthen CFC’s commitment to the future of entertainment.”

“We have received many creative, highly innovative, and refreshingly unique game ideas that push the boundaries of what wearable technology devices can do. For developers and consumers alike, this is very exciting,” said Shawn Hardin, Founder & CEO of Mind Pirate. “Developers are ready to push the envelope and create new experiences that will help make wearable technology tomorrow, what the iPhone is today. We can’t wait to enable the next generation experiences that these talented developers will create.”
