Whistler Film Festival Adventure Film Series Lineup Announced
Presented as part of Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival (GO Fest), WFF’s Adventure Film Series features six films from six countries comprised of a selection of the world’s best outdoor adventure films from extreme sport to activism through adventure. All films will be presented at Millennium Place on May 16 and 17 with eight screenings to choose from.
Adventure Film, as it is known, covers risks, mighty and absurd, the unknown, and those experiences that bring us to the edges of our seats with our hands over our eyes or our fists in the air. WFF’s Adventure Film Series is dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating audiences about environments, cultures, issues and adventures. The combination of films, conversations and inspiration through the power of the story, especially the narrative of adventure and awakening to change, challenges us and our impressions of the world we live in.
WFF’s Adventure Film Series features a six film lineup from six countries comprised of a selection of the world’s best independent outdoor, adventure films that range from extreme sport to activism through adventure. Mountain biking, environmentalism, surfing, base-jumping, freestyle skiing, skateboarding, SUP, snowboarding, mountain climbing and the search for freedom through action sports are among the film themes. All films are either Canadian or Whistler premieres and family friendly with two 19+ screenings.

Saturday May 16:
1:00 pm: Sunshine Superman – Whistler Premiere – 2014 | USA/Norway | 101 minutes – Directed by Marah Strauch | Rated PG – Follow the life of Carl Boenish, “the father of BASE jumping”, in this heart-racing documentary. Carl’s early passion for skydiving led him to even more spectacular – and dangerous – feats of foot-launched human flight. Told through Carl’s own 16mm footage, well-crafted re-enactments and state of the art aerial photography, this film will leave you breathless and inspired.
4:00 pm: The Search For Freedom – Canadian Premiere – 2015 | Canada | 92 minutes – Directed by Jon Long | Not Rated – The best in the biz – Kelly Slater, Tony Hawk, Anne Boulanger, Gary Fisher and many more – discuss the freedom that comes from living in the moment and doing what makes us feel the most alive. The activity itself becomes a form of art to answer the age-old questions of “why do we do it”. The Search For Freedom provides an inside look at the Action Sports Revolution and is about the infinite possibilities available to anyone willing to drop in. 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm (19+ only): Dog Days Of Winter – Canadian Premiere – 2014 | USA | 65 minutes – Directed by Brian Gilmore | Not Rated – Where do the origins of freestyle skiing come from? Told from the point of view of pioneers of the sport, ‘Dog Days’ tells the story of key people and events that set the stage for the birth of freestyle skiing and the spirit that has lead it to become the sport that it is today.
