Mr. Anani makes a compelling case for the apps economy, first citing findings from a recent ICTC research report (PDF); an estimated 51,700 Canadian are employed directly and indirectly in the development of apps. Moreover, hundreds of millions of revenues now flow to entrepreneurs and businesses engaged in the development of apps by a diversity of enterprises across the country.

Namir then turns to how the apps economy can and should be an integral part of Canada’s Digital Leadership for the 21st Century. SME’s are viewed as important fuel for economic growth and productivity improvement; the apps economy and mobility impacts a wide range of sectors, ranging from mobile banking, e-health, oil & gas to telemetrics.

He concludes with a call to Action; we should stimulate access to talent and the engagement of all human capital in strengthening Canada’s competitive innovation nation; and then turns to access to funding with economic policies that foster research and direct investment in emerging high potential growth sectors.
