Telefilm Canada has announced the 15 finalists for 2015-2016, representing all regions of the country, in the Micro-Budget Production Program. At the same time, Telefilm announced that the Talent Fund will subsidize the Program, while Technicolor is offering free digital distribution encoding services to finalists who want it. The official announcements were made at a press conference at Toronto’s TIFF Bell Lightbox, in the attendance of finalists and representatives of partner institutions. This is the third annual round of projects in the Micro-Budget Production Program, which supports emerging filmmakers seeking to produce their first feature-length films, with emphasis on the use of digital platforms and developing their potential for distribution and audience engagement. Post-secondary students and instructors in B.C. will be able to access more than 120 open textbooks as dozens of new skills training titles hit digital shelves this fall. Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson made the announcement at the third-annual BCcampus OpenTextbook Summit in Vancouver. The summit brought together members of the open textbook community, including students and instructors from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Wallimage (Wallonia, Belgium) have announced today a financing package of CAN$600,000 for three coproductions under the Canada-Wallonia Incentive for Digital Media Multiplatform projects. The two organizations have each contributed an equal share in the total funding. Three Walloon production companies will work with three Canadian companies to create two new innovative multiplatform projects in development and one project in production financed through the incentive program established in November 2014. Telefilm Canada has announced its support, through the Canada Feature Film Fund, of the production of nine English-language films and one French-language film for a total investment of $7.1 million. The projects selected for funding are Borealis (Sean Garrity), How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town (Jeremy LaLonde), The People Garden (Nadia Litz), People Hold On (Michael Seater), Prisoner X (Gaurav Seth), Room (Lenny Abrahamson), The Steps (Andrew Currie), Undone (Director X), The Waiting Room (Igor Drljaca), and Ego trip (Benoit Pelletier). It’s lights, camera, action for the DOXA Documentary Film Festival, thanks to nearly $31,000 in provincial Job Creation Partnership funding, which is helping four people get behind-the-scenes work experience at the festival office. Last year, the Documentary Media Society non-profit, which runs the DOXA festival, received more than $25,000 in Job Creation Partnership funding to train four other workers, for a two-year total of $56,000. Effective today, Telefilm Canada is now accepting applications for its 2015/2016 Production Program, with respect to French and English market projects with budgets of less than $2.5M. Please note that this is an opening date. Telefilm will continue to accept applications for lower-budget projects until the closing date, which will be announced in due course. It is recommended that each client should contact the Regional Feature Film Executive responsible for the applicable region to discuss the project, before submitting an application. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Italian Directorate General for Cinema of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism (DGC – MiBACT) announced today an agreement to establish an incentive for co-development of documentary projects between producers in both countries.
