Stemsoft And The Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group Announce Partnership
The Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group (CBMTG) is pleased to announce a partnership with Vancouver-based STEMSOFT Software Inc. that will result in a national registry of patients who have undergone blood and marrow transplants in Canada. The CBMTG National Registry is expected to launch in April 2013 in conjunction with the association’s annual conference.
“This registry will ensure that Canadian researchers have relevant data available,” said CBMTG president, Dr. Silvy LaChance. “Our vision is to advance patient care and health care practice.”
Blood and marrow transplants are a treatment option for people with blood cancers and other blood disorders. There are roughly 1,500 transplants across Canada every year; it is estimated that one in two-hundred Canadians will need a blood and marrow transplant in their lifetime. The registry will allow researchers to learn from the experiences of past patients to affect future treatment.
“From a health administration perspective, if we understand how many transplants are being done in Canada and how these numbers have changed with time, we will be able to plan for future needs,” said Dr. Kristjan Paulson, leader of the national steering committee of BMT centres that spearheaded the development of the registry. Dr. Paulson noted that, “our partnership with STEMSOFT is key in the development of a registry that is immediately on par with other registries in other countries.”
“As a Canadian company STEMSOFT is extremely proud to be a part of this project,” states Nicole Waidman, Senior Director, Global Sales and Marketing for STEMSOFT. “STEMSOFT has been dedicated to servicing the unique needs put forth in the cell therapy transplant industry for over twenty years; our unparalleled expertise in this area will empower the CBMTG to analyze this crucial data while providing the support and tools needed to help the registry flourish”.
