Stage To Screen Short Films Celebrate 100th Anniversary Of The Elgin Theatre
Stage to Screen – an imaginative project of the Ontario Heritage Trust, ViDDYWELL FiLMS and bravoFACT – commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Elgin Theatre. Six emerging filmmakers were encouraged to take advantage of the theatre’s magnificent architecture and develop a concept for a short film. The results are six unique and visually stunning shorts.
bravoFACT, the major sponsor of Stage to Screen, has selected the film, Awakening – directed by Danis Goulet and written by Tony Elliott (Orphan Black) – to make its debut prior to the Toronto International Film Festival’s opening gala film, The Fifth Estate, on September 5 at the Elgin Theatre. Awakening – an ancient aboriginal myth told as a post-apocalyptic story – is set in the Winter Garden Theatre.
All six shorts will be screened on Wednesday, September 11, 8 p.m. at the Winter Garden Theatre,189 Yonge Street, Toronto. Tickets for this event are $10 and available at TicketMaster. The Stage to Screen shorts will be promoted with a 30-second teaser at all TIFF screenings at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre. Patrons will be directed to view the films online at bravoFACT.
The 100th anniversary is also being celebrated with a Chandelier Gala at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre on Monday, October 7. The Gala commemorates a century of entertainment from vaudeville to musical theatre and will kick off Celebration Week.
