The Whistler Film Festival is pleased to announce the six films that will compete in the 10th annual Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature Film for a cash prize of $15,000, the second largest cash prize for a Canadian film in the country. Launched in 2004 in honor of legendary Canadian filmmaker Phillip Borsos, the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature Film, celebrates independent vision, original directorial style and the diversity of talent found in Canadian film. Celebrating the best of the best of the world’s entertainment content, the Rockies is an internationally acclaimed program competition hosted by the Banff World Media Festival that attracts over one thousand entries from more than 40 countries annually. Each year at the Rockie Awards Gala, the Banff World Media Festival honours the immeasurable contribution of some of the biggest names on screen and behind the camera in the industry. The 2014 Banff World Media Festival will be held at the Fairmont Springs Hotel & Convention Centre in Banff June 8 through 11th 2014. Final nominees will be announced in May, 2014. The Writers’ Trust of Canada has revealed the finalists for two fiction prizes. The announcement was made at Ben McNally Books. The five finalists for the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, recognizing writers of the year’s best novel or short story collection, were announced by Jan Innes, vice president, government relations, Rogers Communications, along with writer and prize juror Alison Pick; the three finalists for the Writers’ Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize, recognizing new and developing writers for the best short story first published in a Canadian literary journal during the previous year, were announced by juror and past prize winner Miranda Hill. The Writers’ Trust of Canada announced today the five finalists for this year’s Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction, the richest annual literary award for a book of nonfiction published in Canada. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) congratulates the winners of the 28th prix Gémeaux who received awards on September 12 and 15. With these awards, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (ACCT) recognizes the outstanding work of industry professionals in the French language market. The Academy nominated 77 CMF-funded projects that received a combined total of 273 nominations. Of those, 29 productions won a total of 60 Gémeaux Awards, including top winners such as Bye Bye 2012, 19-2, O’, and Tu m’aimes-tu and the People’s Choice Award winner Unité 9.
