Toronto – TELUS today announced that it has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corp. in which TELUS is granted the exclusive license to host and operate the HealthVault platform for the development of a consumer-focused e-health service in Canada. The service will be called TELUS Health Space, powered by Microsoft HealthVault.
The service will be the first of its kind in Canada, letting Canadians manage and store their personal health information and have access to applications like personal health record, chronic disease management, pediatric care and wellness products that will allow better management of their health and the health of their family.

Vignette shareholders will receive US $8.00 in cash plus 0.1447 of an Open Text common share for every Vignette common share which equates to approximately US $12.70 at close of market on May 5, 2009. This represents a premium of approximately 74% above the 30 trading day average closing price of Vignette’s shares and approximately 41% above the most recent closing price. This values the transaction at approximately US $310 million.

Ottawa – A coalition of independent telecommunications service providers is asking the Canadian Federal Government to send a clear message that increased competition in the broadband Internet market is necessary for Canadians and Canadian businesses.
In April, MTS Allstream, Bell Canada, Bell Aliant and TELUS petitioned the Federal Government. MTS Allstream’s petition sought to ensure and expand competitive access to last mile broadband facilities, while Bell and TELUS asked that recent CRTC decisions and orders in that regard be overruled.
“Internet access and other broadband services are a fundamental element of economic growth,” said Coalition spokesperson and Chair of the Canadian Association of Internet Providers (CAIP) Tom Copeland. “The Coalition is concerned that the full creative and productivity-enhancing potential of these services will not be realized if Bell and TELUS are allowed to control the pace and extent of competition through their stranglehold on network infrastructure.”

Toronto – Yangaroo Inc., the industry’s leading secure digital media distribution company, is pleased to announce that it has been granted United States patent #7,529,712 titled “Content Distribution System and Method” by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This patent will be in effect until 2026.
The U.S. patent for “Content Distribution System and Method” covers a method of distributing digital content, such as music and advertising, to selected individuals over the Internet, in which the uploading content provider selects the individuals that are entitled to access the content and sets release conditions, such as a time and date. Once the identities of the selected individuals have been verified at login, they are provided with access to the uploaded content if those release conditions are met.
