Whirlscape Inc., creators of Minuum, “the little keyboard for big fingers,” today released the Android beta to the nearly 10,000 supporters who funded the keyboard’s wildly successful Indiegogo campaign. The Minuum Project campaign raised over $87,000 (USD) through the crowdfunding platform between March and April 2013, well past its initial goal of $10,000. They Innovate Inc. is celebrating the launch of their wearable tech accessory Clipless, on Kickstarter. Clipless is a patent-pending solution to secure phones or tablets to clothing or surfaces. Simultaneously, they are unveiling a partnership with Y Combinator funded Tagstand, the creators of NFC Task Launcher. Clipless is the first wearable phone accessory that works with normal clothing, with or without pockets or a belt. Inspiration for the product came from female professionals who disliked the bulky traditional phone holsters but had no fashionable alternatives. Twenty-three year old IFTech entrepreneur Brodie Stanfield is betting on crowdfunding for an edge to take on the establishment. He has initiated a thirty day funding campaign for his company on Kickstarter, where he hopes to obtain funding for his project ARAIG. Attempts at funding have been made through the normal investor channels, but IFTech has been stymied by an unwillingness of investors to take the risk and back an idea which competes against billion dollar companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. D-Wave Systems Inc., a Burnaby-based commercial quantum computing company, has announced that its new 512-qubit quantum computer, the D-Wave Two, will be installed at the new Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab, a collaboration among NASA, Google and the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). The purpose of this effort is to use quantum computing to advance machine learning in order to solve some of the most challenging computer science problems.
