During the month of March, people who register a Nintendo 3DS™, Nintendo 3DS XL or Nintendo 2DS™ system, as well as one of six select Nintendo 3DS games via Club Nintendo, will receive a free code to download either Pokémon™ X or Pokémon Y, the best-selling Nintendo 3DS games of 2013. The six participating games are Mario Kart™ 7, Super Mario 3D Land™, Animal Crossing™: New Leaf, Donkey Kong Country™ Returns 3D, LEGO® City Undercover: The Chase Begins and the upcoming Yoshi’s New Island™. Following thousands of submissions, and nearly 200,000 votes, Ontario’s Cindy Tang, age 17 has been named the winner of the first ever Doodle 4 Google Canada competition for her illustration of an underwater sea telescope. In October 2013 Google invited Canadian students from across the country to re-imagine the Google doodle and express their creativity reflecting the theme, “If I could invent anything, I would invent…” Read the rest of this entry »

The Government of Canada has is providing $90,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund for the 32nd edition of the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), which will take place from March 20 to 30. Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover made the announcement today. These funds will allow FIFA to present the world’s best media arts productions and art films. The Media Arts section will present a number of experimental art films. In addition to the screening of films and videos, there will be conferences, roundtables, and the production of a catalogue. Game Connection has unveiled the list of yet unsigned game projects nominated for the prestigious American Selected Projects 2014. Competition was fierce this year with more than 200 submitted projects. On the morning of 17th March at the Selected Projects Awards Ceremony, each of the 15 nominees will have 5 minutes to pitch their project in front of all publishers, distributors and buyers at Game Connection America. The jury will then award 2014’s “Overall Best Project” from amongst the hugely impressive and varied, international array of entries – based on presentation quality, project innovation and market potential. The accolade of “Overall Best Project” is sponsored by Namco Bandai Games, while Microsoft Studios supports the “Best Console & PC Hardcore” Category. In addition, this year Develop has been announced as the official media partner of the initiative, giving even more visibility to nominees and winners.
