Call for Presenters: Interdisciplinary Arts and Technology Summit
The Banff Centre is seeking national and international presenters on subjects related to interdisciplinary arts practices that engage with digital arts for Convergence, an upcoming arts and technology summit. Convergence is dedicated to exploring what happens when contemporary professional practices in all forms of music, visual and digital art, film, theatre, dance, literature, or interdisciplinary arts cross-pollinate with emerging production and dissemination technologies. Proposals are being accepted until 5 p.m. on March 21, 2014.
Proposals must include:
- The full name and contact information for those involved in the presentation
- A 1-sentence abstract of proposed topic
- A 400 word outline of proposed presentation
- A short biography and/or brief resume listing relevant experience and publications, and website
- The format and technical needs associated with the presentation, including theatrical facilities, if required
- Please indicate if you will be presenting in French or English: translation services will be available
- Include images where appropriate
- Please submit your proposal in pdf format
Presentations will be selected by committee, and successful applicants will be notified by mid-April. Presenters will receive complimentary registration, meals, accommodation, and travel during the summit.
Presenters are free to propose topics, panels, and interactive, immersive or exploratory experiences that engage with the ideas that form the foundation of the summit.
The organizers invite presentations in a range of formats, including the following:
- Lightning Sessions & Roundtable: 5-8 minute presentations discussing exciting propositions about the future of arts practices in the digital age. Sessions will be grouped together with time for conversation and questions at the end.
- Monkeywrench Panels: For presenters who would like to engage in stimulating debate with others. This is an occasion to dig into challenges and to argue provocative concepts. Please indicate a theme related to interdisciplinary arts practices with digital arts. Panels will be 60-90 minutes in length
- Papers: Thoughtful engagement with summit’s themes, exploring a stance in relation to the key questions. A selection of papers will be collected for publication in The Banff Centre’s online journal of art and ideas following the summit. Presentations may be up to 15 minutes in length.
- Artist Presentations: Explorations of artistic practices that illustrate the use of technology across disciplines, showcasing the ideas, techniques, and challenges behind interdisciplinary work. Presentations may be up to 15 minutes in length.
- Performances and Installations: These will be considered on a case-by case-basis, dependent on available theatrical and artistic space. Proposals to animate non-traditional spaces will also be accepted. Please contact us at the email above for details.
- Online Content: Ideal for participants who wish to display materials in digital formats, including animation, film, photography, interviews, etc. These will be supported on banffcentre.ca during and following the conference.
The Banff Centre encourages presentations internationally, from artists and leading thinkers in the arts & cultural sectors, media, communications, and technology industries, and from researchers and academics. The Banff Centre is committed to equity and inclusion, and welcomes applications from diverse Aboriginal, cultural and regional communities, including people with disabilities.
