New Generation Of Google Glassware Unveiled By CFC Media Lab And Mind Pirate

The Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab (CFC Media Lab) and wearable technology company, Mind Pirate, today announced five innovative, diverse, genre-defining apps that are available now for download onto Google Glass and other mobile devices. The apps, which range from immersive gameplay controlled by the nod of a head to real time video and photo effects, were the result of the recently concluded four-month long wearable accelerator created by the CFC Media Lab and Mind Pirate. Canadian Museum Of Nature Launches New Database With 710K Natural History Records

Canadian Museum of NatureThe Canadian Museum of Nature, Canada’s national museum of natural history, has launched a free scientific database featuring open access to more than 710,000 records of plants, animals, fossils, and minerals that are part of the museum’s national collections. The searchable online resource is accessible through the museum’s web site, and the digitized records represent about one-quarter (or 22%) of the museum’s estimated 3.2 million “cataloguable units” of biological and geological material. Overall, the museum estimates it manages more than 10.5 million individual specimens that have been acquired over more than 150 years. The collections, which cover Canada and other parts of the world, are stored and curated at the museum’s Natural Heritage Campus in Gatineau, Quebec. Read the rest of this entry »

History Orders Third Season Of Vikings

Clio Raises $20 Million In Series C Funding

clioClio, a Vancouver-based comprehensive cloud-based practice management platform for the legal industry, announced today that it raised $20 million in Series C financing led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Over the next 12 months, Clio will use the new funding to accelerate product development and sales, and fuel international expansion. The Series C funding brings total capital raised to $27 million.
As the vertical SaaS market takes shape, this investment is another proof point that cloud tech is hitting the tipping point of broad adoption by traditional industries like legal. Over 80% of lawyers in the U.S. practice at firms of less than 10 employees; these small firms rely on Clio to automate time-consuming administrative tasks, which allows them to focus on their core business.
