The Year of Luigi is going strong, and the celebration of the 30^th anniversary of everyone’s favourite younger brother continues with Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system on Aug. 11. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team puts players inside the head of Luigi … literally! In the game, players journey into the imaginative dreams of Luigi to help save Pi’illo Island from a mysterious villain. Using the touch screen on the Nintendo 3DS system, players can manipulate a sleeping Luigi to make fantastical things happen in the dream world, such as altering the dream world environment and growing Luigi to gargantuan size. In his dreams, Luigi also has amazing powers called Luiginary Attacks, such as spawning hundreds of Luigis to form towers, giant hammers and wrecking balls to do battle with a host of nightmares. Rock Hippo Productions Ltd. has officially announced Core Masters to be their next online PC game released in North America and the United Kingdom.  Core Masters is being developed by Soft Bigbang and in partnership with Neowiz Games, Rock Hippo will bring this exciting new entry to gamers hungry for a fresh take on the MOBA genre. An official date for the closed beta of Core Masters is yet to be announced, while development of the game continues to add new features and content.

More free games are on the way, courtesy of Games with Gold on Xbox 360. Xbox Live Gold members worldwide can continue building their collection of digital games on Xbox 360 with three new titles, available for free download for a limited time starting yesterday. These titles are available as free downloads for a limited time for qualifying paid Xbox Live Gold members in all markets where Xbox Live is available. The equivalent prices for “Crackdown” and “Dead Rising 2: Case Zero” are applicable to the U.S. market only. The titles are free for Xbox Gold Live members. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment has confirmed that Batman: Arkham Origins, in development at WB Games Montreal, will ship with a mode that allows players to take the franchise’s award-winning gameplay online to play with friends and foes.  The online component blends the traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics and is in development by Splash Damage. In this original story, Bikini Bottom’s very own Sheldon J. Plankton, known for his obsession with stealing the Krusty Krab’s secret formula, has new plans to build a mechanised army, threatening the serene seas of Bikini Bottom. Red Barrels announced today that its darkest brainchild, survival horror experience Outlast will be available on September 4, 2013 for digital download on Steam for $19.99. Outlast received great accolades and awards this past E3, even earning the honor of “Most Likely to Make you Faint.” White-knuckled attendees playing the game for the first time struggled to maintain composure (and consciousness) when faced with the frightening effects of Outlast’s immersive audio design and the shocking truth of what lies inside Mount Massive Asylum. At San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, Capcom and Microsoft Studios released the first Dead Rising 3 ViDoc, titled “Zombie Apocalypse Evolved: The Making of Dead Rising 3,” giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the popular franchise’s newest installment – coming from Capcom Vancouver exclusively to Xbox One when the system launches in November. It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… a Winged Pikmin! In celebration of Pikmin 3’s North American launch on August 4, Nintendo of Canada is putting a new type of Pikmin, the Winged Pikmin, front-and-centre at Red Bull Flugtag Ottawa-Gatineau. If you haven’t heard of it, Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams to design, build and pilot homemade flying machines… off the end of a 22-foot high flight deck. Our Pikmin may have wings, but will it fly? We’ll find out on July 27! Festivities start at 10:30 a.m. in Ottawa-Gatineau at the Museum of Canadian Civilization, and the event is free.
