Over the weekend Digital Extremes marked 6 months in open beta for Warframe with one of its biggest updates yet. The development team at BC’s Hinterland Games is sending out a huge THANK YOU for the interest in their studio and its first game. They are over the moon that you’re as excited about The Long Dark as they are and recognize that they wouldn’t be here without you. The team has launched their official KickStarter campaign, and it’s off to a great start as the staff at KickStarter have chosen it as a Staff Pick. Paper Machete Games, an independent development studio located in Campbell River has just released a Windows demo for its upcoming title Attack Of The Gelatinous Blob, a real time strategy game mixed with some tower assault elements. In the game you play the mad scientist, Dr. Blob, who controls a horde of blobs set on taking over the world. The blobs have exciting abilities where they can change their attacks and skills based on what they eat. Combine them to create horrific slimy monstrosities, gelatinous cubes, and slime puddles. In this latest Nintendo 3DS adventure, we travel along with the famous sibling plumbers on a vacation to Pi’illo Island, which of course is not the simple pleasure trip it appears to be. There are new characters and villains (along with the long-familiar ones) to chat up and combat, and as you can expect from a Mario title, there’s a healthy helping of puzzles to solve. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is a combination of colourful 3D levels and classic 2D side-scrolling action, and in this aspect the game really does shine. There was obviously much time spent in development perfecting this new world into a place that it seems only Nintendo can produce while making full use of the 3DS’ abilities. Today at its Digital Days event, Ubisoft shared more details about several of its upcoming titles. First on the information list is Child of Light, a digital title to be released in 2014 on current- and next-generation platforms as well as PC.  The game is being created by a small team of seasoned developers based at Ubisoft Montreal. Child of Light has been developed on Ubisoft’s UbiArt Framework, a powerful engine that lets programmers and artists to bring their art to life by allowing original concept art to be inserted unedited into the game world. Game industry veteran Raphael van Lierop has announced the formation of independent developer Hinterland Studio, a new creative studio located in the picturesque Northern Vancouver Island wilderness. With a roster of established industry veterans who have collectively worked on over 40 triple-A games, the studio is also pleased to announce development of its first title, The Long Dark. A first-person post-disaster survival simulation, The Long Dark is set in the aftermath of a geomagnetic super storm that has destroyed North America’s technology infrastructure. In the first season of this episodic series, players experience this grim new reality through the eyes of bush pilot William Mackenzie, isolated with other survivors in the Northern wilderness as a result of the event. Gameplay emphasizes exploration to gather resources and knowledge about the world, while mastering a deep survival simulation to overcome the myriad natural and man-made hazards of the new frontier.
