The recipients of the 2013/14 Interactive Fund and Arts Innovation Fund were announced yesterday by Creative BC. The Interactive Fund is a program created in partnership between Creative BC and the BC Arts Council intended to support the production of high quality, original, interactive digital media content and software applications owned and controlled by BC companies or individuals. Rovio Entertainment has chosen Sony Pictures Imageworks, Inc. in Vancouver as its primary animation house for the production of the Angry Birds movie, the upcoming animated film based on Rovio’s globally beloved brand. The film is being produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder and executive produced by Mikael Hed and David Maisel. The movie is being directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis; the screenplay is by Jon Vitti. Angry Birds is slated for a July 1, 2016 release and will be distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures. Sandvine has announced a virtual offering that provides Communications Service Providers (CSPs) the ability to offer Sandvine’s entire suite of network policy control solutions as managed services to their business customers. The new offering is made possible by Sandvine’s fully virtualized policy control platform – the first of its kind. Virtualization allows Sandvine’s DPI-based policy enforcement (PCEF) and policy decision (PCRF) elements to be deployed as Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware at a business’s premise, or in a multi-tenant environment at the CSP’s data center. DHX Media Ltd. has announced that the studio has signed a toy licensing deal with Quebec company Imports Dragon for its children’s animation series Johnny Test. Under the terms of the deal, licensee Imports Dragon has acquired the rights to create collectable figures of the action adventure star Johnny Test, set to launch at retail for this Fall 2014 in North America. One of the top rated kid’s TV shows globally since 2005, Johnny Test is among the most aired shows on Cartoon Network in the U.S., and also airs on the broadcaster’s international channels.
