Toronto’s D.A.R.C. Productions Inc. has begun production on a documentary about game jams and the developers who participate in them. The first round of footage was shot during the Toronto segment of the Global Game Jam, shadowing four teams throughout the event as they took a game from concept to playable in one weekend. The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter has received several reports of door-to-door canvassers purporting to be collecting donations on behalf of the Foundation in different St. John’s neighbourhoods during the last two weeks. Cineplex Entertainment and RealD Inc. have announced that Cineplex will add 100 additional RealD 3D systems to its circuit. Upon completion of the installation, approximately 40% of the Cineplex circuit will be 3D capable. The installation of these RealD 3D systems is scheduled to be completed by June 30th of this year. Cackleberries Entertainment, a studio we first told you about in 2009, is set for official launch. Eight years in the making, Cackleberries is the vision of Coquitlam, BC mom Eronne Foster, who wanted to build a virtual world around teaching kindness, empathy, honesty and loyalty – along with a few school subjects. The filmmaker is using the latest resource known as Fan Funding where by people like you and I are asked to help pay for his up coming “featurette”, by donation. After over two million votes, thirty ideas have risen to the top and been chosen as finalists for this year’s Aviva Community Fund competition. The Fund, now in its third year and created by home and auto insurer Aviva Canada, provides $1,000,000 in donations to lead, empower and support community initiatives across the country. (We here at Village Gamer had hoped to see the Youth At Risk project make it into the finals, and while it was close, the joint Abbotsford Police and Fire Department program did not make the top ten medium-sized projects.) After Sun Youth’s announcement last week that they were short 2,000 toys for their holiday toy drive, Montreal’s own MEGA Brands received an urgent call from the North Pole. The “big man” himself, along with several of his Elves will make a quick trip to the MEGA Brands toy factory where they will be hard at work helping build those extra toys.
