New from Vancouver studio Switch United is an interactive companion feature for Paperny Entertainment‘s Cold Water Cowboys, returning to Discovery for Season 2 on March 10th. Atlantic Empire is an immersive multiplayer HTML5 gaming experience that captures the essence of a high-stakes Newfoundland fishing adventure with a combination of both strategy and skill-based gameplay, including in-depth information about show characters and locations. Using map-based gameplay, players customize their harbours and their fishing operations, reaping as much crab, herring and mackerel as they can in order to build their fishing dynasty. Following the recent opening of the Barrick Gold Corporation Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum, the ROMining Game App is now live. The gallery, located in the ROM’s Teck Suite of Galleries: Earth’s Treasures (Level 2), is an interactive 600 square foot space, with multi-touch, animated displays, multi-media presentations and more. At the heart of this new gallery is the Challenge of Mining game. Featuring a multi-touch table, the game can be played by up to eight players in the Museum and another four mobile players, by downloading the newly available ROMining Game App. An inter-generational experience, the game requires players to choose a specific character, representative of a mining stakeholder (miner, local community member among them) and, working together, players are challenged to “manage” a successful, ethical, and productive mining operation. The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is pleased to announce the launch of ScopifyROM, an exciting new smartphone application that allows visitors to experience ROM objects in fun and interactive ways, including Animating a dodo, X-raying a mummy, and Skinning a dino. Developed by Toronto-based production company Kensington Communications, the studio behind Museum Secrets, ScopifyROM is a digital discovery platform that allows visitors to interact with select objects throughout ROM galleries in ways never before possible in any museum. The Thinking Skills Club, an after school activity that uses online games as a way of tuning up children’s cognitive gears, has created a YouTube video giving an overview of the site itself and how it works. Using Snow Line, a game in the Executive Function section of the site, club founder Mitch Moldofsky leads a virtual tour that includes playing the game, demonstrating how the “brain puzzles” that track a child’s progress are built, and even linking up to research about the supporting skills that underlie the choice of games.
