GameHouse, the gaming division of RealNetworks, has announced that the company is expanding its social game studio to a new office at 712 Yates in Victoria, where it aims to double its staff to at least 45 people by the end of 2012. GameHouse Canada takes an indie approach to game production, encouraging designers to express their creative freedom during game development. The new downtown studio opens on January 16th and will offer its staff several perks including an open and collaborative working environment, a plush gaming and entertainment lounge, creative Fridays, and more. Canada’s creative talent will once again gather on the West Coast this spring to celebrate its world-class video game developers at the third annual Canadian Videogame Awards ceremony to take place in Vancouver on April 3, 2012 during the International Digital Media Summit in Vancouver. The International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) have announced the Platinum Sponsorship of ProSiebenSat.1 Games, the second largest media group in Europe. The International Game Developers’ Association annual sleep deprivation weekend is fast approaching, and applications for Site Hosts are still being accepted. I’m referring of course to the annual Global Game Jam, which will be held this coming January 27th through 29th. The Fonds de solidarité FTQ has announced an $8 million investment in Vancouver’s 7GEntertainment which will be used to launch online video game publishing and hosting services. Roughly 100 jobs will be created over the next two years as a result of this investment. The announcement was made today by Fonds president and CEO Yvon Bolduc during a speech at the Canadian Club of Montreal. Phil Rogers, President and CEO of video game publisher Square Enix Europe and Stéphane D’Astous, General Manager of development studio Eidos-Montréal will be making a very special announcement at Club 1234 on November 21st.
