The Rogers Innovation Report released today reveals that Canadian technology users are hungry for the next generation of Internet experiences. Over three quarters (79 per cent) say that the Internet allows them to connect in ways that make their lives better now and 72 per cent expect the Internet to play an increasingly important role in the next five years. As the role of cloud computing is growing significantly in its ability to deliver business applications, many IT decision makers are facing challenges with their existing network infrastructure to support the migration of their business applications to the cloud. An international study announced today by Cisco revealed that without the proper cloud migration strategy, more than one third (38 percent) of IT decision makers would rather get a root canal, dig a ditch, or do their own taxes than address network challenges associated with public or private cloud deployments. Creative professionals may want to “dress” their resume for success, a new survey by The Creative Group suggests. Nearly four in 10 (37%) advertising and marketing executives interviewed said for those pursuing creative roles, how a resume looks matters as much as what it contains. Going to a movie is the most common way to spend a first date according to the results of a movie-related poll conducted by Cineplex Entertainment and Ipsos Reid. Canadians also identified “Saturday” as the preferred movie-going night and Skyfall, the latest installment in the James Bond series, as the most anticipated movie of 2012. App Promo, a leading app marketing and strategy firm, has published the results from their First Annual Developer Survey that took place in April 2012. The most staggering finding from the survey was that 59% of participants indicated that the revenue generated by their most successful app was not enough to break even with development costs. Findings from Randstad’s latest Global Workmonitor, surveying employees in 32 countries around the world, reveal that most Canadian workers have access to the Internet at work, and nearly half own a private smartphone or device. According to the survey, most Canadian employees report having access to the Internet at work (76%). In Canada alone, 13 per cent of employees say they have a smartphone which includes e-mail that is provided by their employer, while another 47 per cent of respondents report owning a smartphone privately. The most common management mistake has an easy remedy: don’t keep employees in the dark. In a new Accountemps survey, 39 per cent of chief financial officers (CFOs) interviewed said lack of communication between staff and management is the most frequent misstep companies make in managing their teams.
