A recent Analyst Insight report from Aberdeen Group Vice President and Research Fellow Derek Brink outlines the benefits to organizations of classifying data in order to effectively protect it. The report, titled Does Your Enterprise Classify Its Data? analyzes over five years of data loss prevention (DLP) research by Aberdeen, and concludes that data classification is a capability that is consistently linked with the best performing organizations in the area of data loss prevention. Research designed to understand the effect of text messaging on language found that texting has a negative impact on people’s linguistic ability to interpret and accept words. The study, conducted by Joan Lee for her master’s thesis in linguistics, revealed that those who texted more were less accepting of new words. Rogers Communications has released the results of its Rogers Innovation Report that regularly explores Canadians’ habits and views on technology. The latest Report focuses on how technology users connect to family and friends and includes a survey that shows six-in-ten (58%) Canadians cannot imagine life without the modern conveniences of texting, email and social networking, while nearly four-in-ten (39%) feel that staying connected with loved ones is equally as important as eating and sleeping. Think cover letters are passé when applying for a position? Think again, a new OfficeTeam survey suggests. More than three in four (78 per cent) executives polled said cover letters are valuable when evaluating job candidates. According to a survey commissioned by Minigroup, a Calgary-based developer of web-based collaboration software, small- and mid-sized company employees agree that tools such as a centralized web portal for storing and accessing documents, consolidated group task lists and the ability to edit documents jointly will increase workplace productivity. “There’s an app for that” may apply to more than four in ten Canadian businesses before the year is over, a new survey by Robert Half Technology shows.
