Canadian Digital Media Network Officially Launches Soft-Landing Program

CDMNThe Canadian Digital Media Network (CDMN), in partnership with its nodes across Canada, has announced the official launch of its Soft-Landing Program which enables companies to explore and capitalize on global business opportunities. Participants in the pilot phase of the program have already had success over the past eight months and, with today’s official launch, CDMN announces support for up to 20 companies to participate in the next program round starting in January, 2013. Conference Board Releases Global Competition and Innovation Ranking Report

conference board of canadaCanada’s sliding global competitiveness ranking is due to its weak innovation performance, according to a Conference Board of Canada analysis of World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index 2012-13. Overall, Canada’s ranking declined to 14th place in 2012 – from 12th place in 2011 and 10th place in 2010. But in the sub-area of innovation and business sophistication factors, Canada fell six places from 15th to 21st – no other top-ranked country dropped nearly as much. Read the rest of this entry »

BC Games Industry Town Hall – Where Do We Go From Here?

DigiBCOrbyAs those of you who follow us on Twitter will be well aware, DigiBC hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday night for the BC game development community. It was encouraging to see such an excellent turnout for the event, and kudos to Whitney and Carly for putting the event together. The evening featured a panel of local creative devs with Lance Davis taking on the role of moderator. Opening remarks for the evening were presented by Rick Griffiths, Audit and Assurance Group partner with PwC. I will touch on only a few of the highlights from the evening, simply because the conversation moved quite quickly and because we did tape the event. i-CANADA Governors Council Decision Forum Announcement

CATAA very respected international leader, Conor Lenihan, will be joining the i-CANADA Governors Council meeting in Montreal at the i-CANADA Summit Conference. Mr. Lenihan was the former Minister of Science and of Education of Ireland, he was a private sector executive in the telecommunications industry and he is now the Vice President for International Business for Skolkovo, Russia’s new Innovation City. CWTA Seeks Competition Bureau Cooperation To Protect Consumers

cwtaThe Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) today offered the following statement regarding recent actions by the Competition Bureau regarding Common Short Codes. The Bureau’s actions could disrupt the text message services, such as severe weather alerts, charitable donations, flight status updates or sports scores, on which millions of Canadian consumers depend.
