Vancouver’s ThinkBox Publishing has published “Wallflowers Need Not Apply: A “no bs” look at the world of professional screenwriting,” a 212-page book by author/screenwriter John Russell (the pen name of a screenwriter with nearly 20 years of professional experience). “I’ve been a professional writer for nearly 20 years. TELETOON at Night fans have spoken! The votes are in and Vancouver, BC’s Sheryl Vedamani and Lemoyne, QC’s Philippe Ramsay Gaudreau have 10,000 reasons to gloat today as their animated films have been named the winners of the TELETOON at Night Pilot Project and TÉLÉTOON la Nuit Projet Pilote contests, respectively. As the winners, both Vedamani and Gaudreau have won $10,000 CDN and a trip for two to North America’s largest animation conference and festival, the Television Animation Conference and Ottawa International Animation Festival.
Vedamani, 20, is a Vancouver native and is a student at Vancouver Film School. Gaudreau, 26, grew up in Brossard, Quebec and currently works as a 2D artist at a video game company in Montreal. Read the rest of this entry »

Following his critically acclaimed music for Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed II and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, British Academy award-winning composer Jesper Kyd has written and produced the original score for Assassin’s Creed® Revelations, the fourth installment in Ubisoft’s immensely popular video game franchise, alongside music composed by Lorne Balfe. To reflect the story’s multicultural setting of 16th Century Constantinople, Jesper Kyd has crafted a rich and evocative hybrid music score drawing on Greek, Renaissance and Middle-Eastern instrumentation, while combining his emotional melodic writing and acoustic/electronic styles associated with the series. Assassin’s Creed Revelations will be available on November 15th for Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3 and PC.

US-based WWE Studios has acquired all US distribution rights to the Toronto International Film Festival cult hit The Day, Doug Aarniokoski’s visceral action thriller. The movie, which was filmed in Ottawa, screened to sold-out crowds in the Midnight Madness section of the Festival.
