The Animation Project (TAP) in New York has pioneered a novel and effective method for helping at-risk youth: Use digital art technology as a therapeutic medium and workforce development tool. To support this effort, PNY, Intel and Red Barn Technology Group contributed to the creation of a new classroom of graphics workstations to assist TAP in its endeavors.  Capitalizing on youth’s natural interest in new media, The Animation Project engages at-risk kids in digital art-fueled group therapy sessions that cultivate self-expression, improve self-esteem, enhance social and emotional coping skills—while simultaneously fostering the development of practical computer competencies that transfer to a variety of career and education paths. For the first time ever, Nintendo’s Mario Kart franchise will be powered by some real-world horsepower. An August 27 game update to Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U console will deliver a variety of new features for players, including the ability in-game to download three free Mercedes-Benz cars that players can race: the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s and the legendary Silver Arrow of the 1930s. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of more than $6.7M in development and marketing support to innovative digital media projects as part of the first round of its 2014-2015 Experimental Stream funding. In July 2014, the CMF announced a contribution of more than $12.6M to 25 projects that received production support. Since 2010, the CMF has contributed $44.5M in development and marketing support to 204 interactive digital media projects as part of the Experimental Stream. Read the rest of this entry »

Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group have announced the launch of LEGO® Friends for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch available for download on the App Store.  Based on the popular LEGO Friends collection of building sets, the LEGO Friends App lets players create their own summer adventure in Heartlake City alongside LEGO Friends Olivia, Mia, Stephanie, Emma and Andrea.
