Just a week into their Kickstarter campaign for The Long Dark, and Hinterland Games has already amassed the support of 2,500 backers who have generously pledged more than $70,000 towards development of the simulation survivalist project. The developers are very pleased to announced that one of our personal favourite Canadian actors will be joining Mark Meer (who is also a personal favourite) on the cast of The Long Dark. This morning we were very pleased to discover that Elias Toufexis will be lending his talent to one of the characters, even though Hinterland is not yet revealing which character. Vancouver Island indie game developer Paper Machete Games, creators of the real time strategy (RTS) game Attack of the Gelatinous Blob, has revealed what modding capabilities will be available for the real time strategy game. MEG: RVO from independent Vancouver developer Skunkwerks Kinetic is a top-down, online multiplayer game for the iPad 3 (retina display) and up. It combines action and strategy in a video game universe where Slate Kinetic, a sinister corporate entity, is training remote vehicle operators to explore alternate worlds. The studio’s first production and KickStarter project, MEG:RVO is coming to you from the founders of Skunkwerks Software and its newly formed creative team. The company is made up of diverse professional backgrounds and different levels of experience, and from modellers to programmers to writers, everyone on the team has a say in the final product. Funcom‘s The Secret World is offering its players a new chain of events called The Whispering Tide. In these events the whole community joins together to fight the Filth invasion in the hollow earth – Agartha. The first event in this chain starts today, Friday the 20^th of September, and lasts until the players have overcome the new challenge by beating back the Filth’s attack. Today at the Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft showcased a first look at Crimson Dragon, the flight-based shooter from the creator of the critically acclaimed Panzer Dragoon series, and unveiled new gameplay for Dead Rising 3, the next blockbuster installment of Capcom’s award-winning zombie action series, coming exclusively to Xbox One on November 22. Nintendo is offering Wii U owners a chance to download a full version of Wii Fit U for free. Starting November 1, Wii U owners can download a complete version of the game and get a head start on their New Year’s fitness goals by trying out all the activities found in the game for a full month – at no cost. All users need is a Wii Balance Board and a Wii U system with a broadband Internet connection. Consumers can keep their trial copies of Wii Fit U at no additional cost by simply purchasing and syncing a Fit Meter to the game. Kerberos Productions, which launched its first Kickstarter campaign last month for the sci-fi wargame Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders, continues to offer the general public, as well as Kickstarter supporters, the opportunity to get hands-on with the game by releasing an Android device Alpha demo to Google Play for free.  As well, the PC Alpha demo, which was released through GamersHell.com in August, is being updated with air and engineering units. Inspired by classic wargames like Panzer General, Ground Pounders is a hex-based, turn-based science fiction strategy game, designed to give gamers a new twist on traditional turn-based warfare.
