Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce the finalists of its 2014-2015 Micro-Budget Production Program. The 15 emerging talents, including three Aboriginal filmmakers, come from all regions of the country. This is the second edition of filmmakers selected as finalists of this initiative created in June 2012. Telefilm will contribute up to $1.5 million to this year’s program. The Micro-Budget Production Program supports new filmmakers seeking to produce their first feature-length films, with an emphasis on the use of digital platforms for distribution and marketing. Candidates for this year’s program were recommended to Telefilm through a network of 32 institutional partners from the film education and training community across Canada. Since 1982, the Award has been presented annually to an individual whose body of work in entertainment has profoundly touched the lives of audiences around the world. The 2013 finalists for the Canadian Videogame Awards were announced today in seventeen categories. The winners will be revealed at the annual event to be held on November 21, 2014 at the Carlu in the heart of downtown Toronto. Over 75 nominations for games released in 2013 were received from all parts of Canada, with 29 games represented in the list of finalists. All awards are for work developed in Canada. A body of industry experts from across the country will vote on the winners in each category. Members of the general public can get involved by casting their vote for the Fans’ Choice Award online. The Toronto Screenwriting Conference (TSC) has announced the recipients of the Telefilm Canada New Voices Award. Out of the forty-seven applicants representing nine provinces, from Newfoundland to the Northwest Territories, five emerging writers have received the award; Katherine Di Marino, Elene Mekete, Lea Nakonechny, Ashley Park and Jon Wayne Brown. The fifth annual Toronto Screenwriting Conference takes place at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management on April 5 & 6, 2014. Each winner will receive a complimentary registration to the TSC as well as an exclusive lunch with representatives from Telefilm Canada, and TSC founder and president of Meridian Artists Literary Agency, Glenn Cockburn. CTV and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today that six-time JUNO Award winners Arcade Fire, rockers OneRepublic, and eight-time JUNO Award winner Sarah McLachlan, are the latest performers confirmed for CTV’s broadcast of The 2014 Juno Awards on March 30th. Leading the 2014 JUNO Award nominations with six, including Album of the Year, Arcade Fire, unable to attend The 2014 Juno Awards due to touring commitments, take part in broadcast via a taped performance. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) congratulates the winners and nominees of the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards, which have been recognized for their excellence by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and industry professionals at a series of events which culminated with last night’s gala. The Writers Guild of Canada has announced the finalists for the 18th annual WGC Screenwriting Awards. The WGC Screenwriting Awards will celebrate the excellence of Canada’s best screenwriters with a gala event on April 28, 2014, at Toronto’s Koerner Hall. This year, more than 190 scripts were nominated for awards in seven categories, with 30 chosen as finalists. In total, 50 screenwriters are up for awards.
