Global Game Jam, Inc. has announced that it is ready to accept host applications for GGJ 2013 Jam Sites. The Global Game Jam (GGJ) will take place January 25-27, 2013, worldwide. Jam site organizers are invited to apply online. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has put the spotlight on Canada’s excellence, creativity and innovation at the world’s largest content entertainment market in Cannes. Today at Cannes the Canada Media Fund (CMF) featured Canada’s leading-edge and innovative transmedia series, games, software and mobile applications made specifically for children and youth. The Canada Media Fund’s Catalina Briceno, Director of Industry and Market Trends, presented a special screening of ten outstanding projects representative of Canada’s creative screen-based industry geared towards the youth market. Last year alone, the CMF committed a total of $79 million to 128 projects targeting the children’s and youth market, presented on television or developed for digital platforms. A major contingent of Canadian talent is taking part in this year’s MIPCOM, the world’s leading entertainment content market across all platforms, which takes place in Cannes from October 8 to 11. The Canadian presence will serve to support the promotion of Canadian productions featured in the Canada Country of Honour event, organized by Reed MIDEM in partnership with the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada. Attracting some of the best minds in digital design and media just got easier with the launch of the new Centre for Digital Media at Great Northern Way Campus (GNWC). The Centre for Digital Media has been occupied since August 20, 2012 but celebrated its official launch on September 21. The 51,000-sq. ft. building combines social, learning and student residential space for the Masters of Digital Media (MDM) program. Located next to the existing Centre on the False Creek Flats, adjacent to Great Northern Way, the mixed-use facility provides state-of-the-art classrooms and studios, along with three floors (76 units) of student designated rental housing in a LEED Gold certification qualified building.
