MaRS Discovery District officially launched its new impact investing platform, SVX (Social Venture Connexion), in an announcement this morning at the Toronto Stock Exchange. It is the first local impact investment platform of its kind in North America. To celebrate the launch, Ilse Treurnicht, CEO, MaRS Discovery District, joined Tom Kloet, CEO, TMX Group, the Hon. Kerberos Productions, which launched its first Kickstarter campaign last month for the sci-fi wargame Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders, continues to offer the general public, as well as Kickstarter supporters, the opportunity to get hands-on with the game by releasing an Android device Alpha demo to Google Play for free.  As well, the PC Alpha demo, which was released through GamersHell.com in August, is being updated with air and engineering units. Inspired by classic wargames like Panzer General, Ground Pounders is a hex-based, turn-based science fiction strategy game, designed to give gamers a new twist on traditional turn-based warfare. Hinterland Games is thrilled to announce that talented actor Mark Meer has joined Hinterland and will be voicing The Long Dark‘s protagonist, bush pilot William Mackenzie. Fans of the Mass Effect series will no doubt recognize Mark as the iconic Commander Shepard in that blockbuster game franchise, and we’re honoured that he’ll be bringing the lead character in The Long Dark to life. With the new school year upon us, if your school is anything like the ones in our town, fundraising to support the PAC and other school activities are high priority. Vancouver-based creative platform Kibooco has built a “digital DIY” platform for kids to create their own designs, make them into custom products and share them for social good. The development team at BC’s Hinterland Games is sending out a huge THANK YOU for the interest in their studio and its first game. They are over the moon that you’re as excited about The Long Dark as they are and recognize that they wouldn’t be here without you. The team has launched their official KickStarter campaign, and it’s off to a great start as the staff at KickStarter have chosen it as a Staff Pick. TickleVault is a project formed by Fort Technology, an Alberta based technology company, to provide a secure alternative to Dropbox hosted on Canadian soil. The TickleVault system allows users to backup and synchronize files between their PC, Mac, Android, and iPhone and have the files stored encrypted in a secure location in downtown Edmonton. MechWarrior Online developer Piranha Games and publisher Infinite Game Publishing (IGP) revealed the final tally of the “Sarah’s ‘Mech” fundraiser drive for the Canadian Cancer Society, a campaign honoring the passing of one of the youngest and most talented Canadian pilots in the Inner Sphere, five-year-old Sarah Marie Alida Parries. Hot off the grill, a new video game studio has arrived in St. John’s. Founded by two game developers with a passion for intense experiences, Red Meat Games offers the kind of video games that players have a hunger for, and their first offering is partway through a very successful Kickstarter campaign. Steel & Steam: Episode 1 is a retro fantasy steampunk JRPG situated in a large open world. The studio’s initial funding goal has been met, and the developers are now working towards realizing their stretch goals, to which further contributions received will be applied. Today Piranha Games and Infinite Game Publishing honour the passing of one of the youngest and most talented Canadian pilots in the MechWarrior Online Inner Sphere, five-year-old Sarah Marie Alida Parries. A custom Jenner Class Chassis Champion ‘Mech, “Sarah’s ‘Mech”, is available now for pilots to purchase for $10 USD through August 20^th, with 100 percent of the proceeds (after third-party transaction fees) going to the Canadian Cancer Society. The five year old Vancouver native loved piloting the Jenner ‘Mech in MechWarrior Online with her father, Jon Parries. Calling the enemy ‘Mechs “baddies”, she and her father dominated the Inner Sphere on a regular basis in the current Open Beta. Gnow.it is a news reading app powered by artificial intelligence that promises automated personalization in order to provide a unique reading experience for each of its end users.
