DHX Television, the broadcasting division of DHX Media Ltd., is heading to the drawing board for more animation after ordering the new comedy adventure series Fangbone! from Radical Sheep Productions. It was announced today that production has commenced on 52 x 11-minute episodes of the animated series, based on the bestselling graphic novel series Fangbone: Third Grade Barbarian by Michael Rex. At an event held yesterday morning, Telefilm Canada presented its eighth annual Guichet d’or award to director and screenwriter Xavier Dolan for his film Mommy, the French-language feature that had the highest domestic box-office earnings in 2014, at $3.3 million. The award comes with a cash prize of $40,000 ($20,000 for the director and $20,000 for the screenwriter). Attending the event were actress Anne Dorval, producer Nancy Grant of Metafilms, Victor Rego, Senior Vice-President – Marketing and Distribution, of Les Films Séville, Anick Poirier, Vice-President of International Sales, also of Les Films Séville, as well as several major players in Canada’s audiovisual industry. There’s a new hero in town and he’s zapping onto Disney XD Canada this March to star in the hilarious adventure series Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. Premiering Monday, March 16 at 6 p.m. ET, the animated comedy stars BC-native Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) as the titular character and follows Penn and his friends as they zap to other dimensions to fill in for heroes in need. Ubisoft Montreal and Atlanta-based Amblyotech Inc. announced their collaboration on the development of Dig Rush, the first video game based on a patented method exclusively used for the treatment of Amblyopia, also known as “lazy eye.” Using inventions initially patented by Drs. Robert Hess, Benjamin Thompson, Behzad Mansouri, Jeremy Cooperstock, Long To and Jeff Blum at McGill University, and subsequently licensed to Amblyotech, Ubisoft is applying gameplay principles to create an entertaining method that can improve patients’ engagement and experience during Amblyopia therapy.
