CyberPatriot V will culminate next week with the National Finals Competition on March 14-16 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. After three impressive preliminary rounds for which over 1,200 teams registered, just 28 teams remain, including 2 teams from Manitoba. The teams will compete for top honours in the All Service and Open Division categories. Secretary of the Air Force Michael B. Donley will be the Keynote Speaker at the National Finals Competition Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. Awards will be presented by Maj. Gen. Suzanne M. An overwhelming response to the annual Women in Games Scholarship offered by Vancouver Film School (VFS) has led to the unprecedented announcement of four recipients. Janel Jolly of Canada, Nicha Jaijadesuk of Thailand, Jaymee Mak of Australia, and Anna Prein of Russia have all been awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the one-year Game Design program. On March 12, FCAC will be participating in “2 Good 2 Be True” Day, during which Canadians will be encouraged to talk about fraud on Twitter using the #2good2Btrue hashtag and share tips for recognizing, reporting and stopping it. They can also share experiences they’ve had and scams they’re aware of. To educate the public about financial crimes and fraud, a one-hour forum on Twitter called “#Fraudchat” takes place every Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. EST. This live online chat, moderated by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Toronto Police Service and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), seeks to educate and exchange ideas with the public about financial crimes and fraud through the use of social media. The North Vancouver School District’s Digital Media Academy will be hosting the Digital Media Youth Expo 2013 at Argyle Secondary School in North Vancouver this Saturday, March 2nd, from 12 to 4pm. The goal of the Digital Media Youth Expo is similar to that of the DMA which is to bring together high school students and their parents, teachers, post-secondary students, educators and members of industry to learn about the many educational and employment opportunities in digital media.
