The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and BDC Capital, a subsidiary of the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), announced today a collaboration to provide companies that have received CMF funding with greater access to capital in order to accelerate the commercialization of their projects and attract potential additional private sector investments.  BDC Capital will support eligible companies with a convertible note worth $150,000 to complement investments already committed by the CMF. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) has entered into an agreement with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) to further support digital media productions funded through the CMF’s Experimental Stream by providing access to the TCS’s Canadian Technology Accelerator program (CTA).  This agreement will allow eligible projects to achieve greater exposure, raise venture funding, access mentoring and develop new business opportunities. This announcement coincides with the launch of a CTA program in the United Kingdom while the Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade was leading a trade mission to the country. This week, British Columbia takes centre stage to demonstrate the province’s growing strength in technology and digital arts during SIGGRAPH 2014, the world’s foremost computer graphics and art conference held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Vancouver first hosted SIGGRAPH in 2011 and is the only city outside of the U.S.A. that has ever been selected for the North American conference. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of more than $6.7M in development and marketing support to innovative digital media projects as part of the first round of its 2014-2015 Experimental Stream funding. In July 2014, the CMF announced a contribution of more than $12.6M to 25 projects that received production support. Minister of Technology, Innovation and Citizens’ Services Andrew Wilkinson has released a video that highlights SIGGRAPH 2014, the world’s foremost computer graphics and art conference coming to the Vancouver Convention Centre August 10-14, 2014. Over 15,000 artists, programmers, filmmakers, computer scientists, animators, game designers and others involved in computer graphics, film making, video games and hardware will be in Vancouver over the four days of the conference. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of $6.3M to 15 projects that applied to the Aboriginal Program. Canadian and international audiences will enjoy five new Children’s & Youth productions, nine Documentaries, and one Drama. The Documentary Media Society is providing four people with behind-the-scenes work experience, thanks to more than $25,000 in Job Creation Partnership funding. The DOXA Engagement Project will provide up to 29 weeks of on-the-job training at the non-profit media society that runs the DOXA Documentary Film Festival.
