The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today $2.5M in funding to 10 convergent projects that applied to the Diverse Languages Program. Since 2010, the CMF has provided $8.9M to 48 projects as part of its Diverse Languages Program. Each of the 10 projects, all of which are documentaries, includes a television production with digital media components in Italian, Mandarin, Spanish and multilingual. The Diverse Languages Program supports productions reflecting Canadian diversity by funding projects in languages other than English, French, or Aboriginal languages. This program is part of the CMF’s convergent stream; thus, projects funded through this program must include content to be developed for distribution on at least two platforms, one of which must be television. Telefilm Canada, the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), the High Commission of Canada, New Delhi, the Consulate General of Canada, Mumbai and the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) are proud to activate the Audiovisual Coproduction Treaty with India, which came into effect in July 2014, with a delegation of 14 Canadian producers taking part in the 4th Forum of the Canada-India Business Council, November 17 to November 19 in Mumbai, and at the 8th Film Bazaar, November 20 to November 24 in Goa. At the same time as this mission is in progress, the 45th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), running November 20 to November 30, will present five Canadian films. The study was conducted by Communications MDR and authored by Maria De Rosa and Marilyn Burgess, with the support of the Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), the Bell Fund, the National Film Board (NFB) and Canadian Heritage.
