Releasing today, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze returns fans to a world full of familiar challenges and rewards with new enemies and new abilities – and a reminder that in DK’s world, timing truly is everything. In fact, some levels in this latest iteration of the franchise bring a stark truism to the adage “he who hesitates is lost” because in some levels there really isn’t any time to look around. It took me more than a few lives to get through some levels, as the difficulty at times seemed to ramp up rather quickly – sometimes frustratingly so – but it’s also easy to rack up a healthy store of “back-up lives” in this game, so it’s all good. Fan Expo Vancouver™ 2014 is back – bigger, and better than before. With an extra day to embrace the best of Vancouver’s geekdom, fans are promised a lot more “pop” to go with the all-ages fan culture celebration of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming. Last year, over 21,000 got their geek on at the Comicon of Hollywood North. Canadians may be eagerly waiting for a spring thaw but there’s no one going more bananas over frozen ice than Donkey Kong.  In just three days, the world’s most recognizable primate will finally learn how many bananas were frozen inside a massive block of ice buried deep in the wilderness.    Canadians have until later today, Thursday February 20, to enter the Banana Mania contest at Nintendo of Canada’s Facebook page. TELETOON ushers in the new spring schedule for “Can’t Miss March” including special programming for March Break, scores of new episodes and the world premiere of The Tom and Jerry Show – a brand new series featuring the much-loved antagonistic pair of friends in newly-animated cat-and-mouse adventures.The month ends with the highly anticipated Total Drama All-Stars finale. The newest game in the lauded Donkey Kong Country series swings to the Wii U system on February 21, bringing with it beautiful high-definition graphics, cleverly designed platforming action and competitive online leaderboards. The game also heralds the exciting return of fan-favourites Dixie Kong and Funky Kong, as well as Cranky Kong, who is a playable character for the first time in series history. The Toronto Screenwriting Conference (TSC) is calling emerging screenwriters from across Canada to apply for the Telefilm Canada New Voices Award. The award grants five budding writers a complimentary registration to the fifth annual conference where they will learn from preeminent screenwriters including Academy-Award winning scribe of Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3, Michael Arndt.
