3M Library Systems has announced the Canadian launch of the 3M Cloud Library eBook Lending System. Highly anticipated, this expansion makes Canada the first country outside of the U.S. to gain access to the service. Canada’s 3M Cloud Library will offer the same easy-to-use customer interface and back-end tools, and will include content from major publishers including Penguin, Random House, Hachette, Macmillan, and HarperCollins. In addition, the catalog includes hundreds of other publishers, offering readers access to thousands of titles. 3M is also currently working with House of Anansi Press, Dundern Press, ECW Press and others to bring readers content from uniquely Canadian voices. Square Enix has announced that Deus Ex: The Fall, the new instalment of the award winning Deus Ex series, is now available on Android devices priced at $6.99 in the Google Play Store. Developed by the Square Enix Mobile division in Europe, in collaboration with the original Deus Ex: Human Revolution team at Eidos-Montréal and N-Fusion, Deus Ex: The Fall is a story driven action-RPG and the first Deus Ex in the series to be released on mobile and tablet devices. Compatible with all major Android devices, the game includes never before seen characters from the novel published by Random House, Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect, picking up directly where the book finishes. Michael Uslan, Executive Producer will kick off the fifth version of Spark [FWD] on Wednesday, February 5th with a keynote address titled From Fan To Filmmaker. Festivities begin with a mixer at the 6 PM in the Citytv Atrium Lounge at VanCity Theatre. It will be followed by a presentation from comic book and Batman expert Michael Uslan. Mr. Uslan purchased the film rights to Batman in the late 70s and has been an integral part of the “Batman” films, executive producing all of the film adaptations including 1989’s “Batman” and, most recently, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” Read the rest of this entry »

Accessible Media Inc. (AMI) has announced that Four Senses, a new, original cooking series that unites blind and sighted chefs in the kitchen, will premiere on Friday, January 24 at 7 pm. Four Senses is a unique food show produced by AMI in conjunction with Varner Productions Limited that features two prominent stars from the reality cooking show world. MasterChef USA winner Christine Ha and winner of Top Chef Canada 2012, Carl Heinrich team up to host this 13-episode cooking show with an accessibility twist. Each 30-minute show will feature cooking segments with celebrity chefs, discussions related to eye disease, and accessibility tips and tools for independence in the kitchen. Capcom Vancouver released a new title update yesterday for “Dead Rising 3” in advance of today’s launch of the game’s first DLC episode, ‘Operation Broken Eagle.’ The update introduces a host of improvements to single-player and co-op gameplay, including a variety of performance and stability upgrades, and fixes for issues related to achievements, UI updates, SmartGlass and more. More than 75% of Fortune 1000 companies now use HootSuite for social media management, social marketing, social customer service, and social selling. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Telefilm Canada are seeking suggestions and ideas from the industry to feature Canadian productions and talent at upcoming MIPTV and MIPCOM events in 2014, the world’s premiere television markets. In 2012, Canada was featured as Country of Honour at MIPCOM. Combined marketing, public relations and media strategies heightened awareness of Canadian productions and talent as well as the country as a strong co-production partner. During the past five years, feature-length documentaries receiving support from Telefilm Canada have earned 130 selections in major international festivals abroad. The United States, Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Argentina, China and France top the list of 31 countries whose festivals have all honoured Canadian documentaries. The international reach of Canadian documentaries as a whole was once again confirmed at the Sundance Film Festival, as the feature My Prairie Home by Chelsea McMullan (National Film Board of Canada) is to be screened in competition in the World Cinema Documentary category, which showcases only 12 international films. In addition, Elliot by Matthew Baukman and Jaret Belliveau (Garage Doc Films) will be presented in the Documentary Features section at Slamdance, the parallel festival specializing in debut feature films.
